Learn about the benefits of accreditation

Look for the “AFAP Accredited” icon on your educator’s website and teaching materials.

What does AFAP Accredited mean?

When you see the AFAP Accredited icon, you can be sure that the Fertility Awareness Educator (FAE) has the qualifications and competencies described below.

If they are not AFAP accredited, then they may not be able to provide the level of support AFAP believes you deserve.

AFAP Accredited FAEs:

  • have demonstrated expertise in teaching others a specific fertility awareness based method for contraception, conception, and assessing health.
  • provide sophisticated interpretations of menstrual cycle tracking charts.
  • use menstrual cycle charts to inform recommendations to improve cycle parameters and overall health.
  • refer clients to appropriate health professionals as needed.
  • collaborate  with other healthcare providers.
  • have training rooted in reproductive justice and are prepared to work with clients of all gender identities, sexual orientations, and religious affiliations.
  • meet ongoing continuing education and professional development requirements.

To become accredited, an FAE must have:

  • completed rigorous coursework and a supervised internship to demonstrate competency in supporting clients who have a variety of reproductive health challenges and fertility goals.
  • graduated from one of AFAP’s accredited training programs.

Why Choose an Accredited AFAP Educator

Our educators support all reproductive goals; provide inclusive care to all genders, relationship types, and sexual orientations; and educate on the use of additional contraception options, abortion, and assisted reproductive technologies.
Experts in the field of Fertility Awareness

Qualified members appear in our Educator Directory, making it easy for potential clients and healthcare providers to connect with you.

Our educators offer personalized, science-backed instruction so you can accurately identify your fertile days, even in situations such as postpartum, irregular cycles, coming off hormonal birth control, etc. Studies have shown that Fertility Awareness for contraception is more effective when learned with a trained instructor teaching a standardized method.
AFAP educators are trained to address a variety of complex situations such as coming off birth control, irregular cycles, postpartum, perimenopause, difficulty with getting pregnant, or managing diagnoses like PCOS or endometriosis.
Our educators are trained to provide secular, inclusive, and full-spectrum Fertility Awareness education. Educators support access to assistive reproductive technologies, the use of barrier methods, emergency contraception, and abortion.
