Clearly, these two are closely aligned, with overlapping goals of empowerment, autonomy, equity, and good health. We believe that the tools of Fertility Awareness can be used by and should be made available to all people with the capacity to cycle so that they can be informed self-advocates for their own reproductive and sexual health, and work toward reproductive justice for all.
Fertility Awareness
- Helps people to make fully informed choices about the contraceptive(s) they may wish to use.
- Enables people to effectively prevent pregnancy regardless of insurance coverage or access to healthcare facilities.
- Shows women/people with the capacity to cycle if and when their fertile window occurs to increase the likelihood of achieving a desired pregnancy.
- Helps people without insurance or financial means increase their chances of conceiving without relying on costly assisted reproductive technology.
- Enables people with vaginas to distinguish signs of infection from healthy vaginal secretions that are associated with fertility.
- Empowers cisgender women/people with the capacity to cycle around their reproductive health and helps them ascertain when something is atypical and may warrant investigation.
- Helps nursing parents manage their fertility so that children can be spaced at intervals that optimize health for the mother/birthing parent and the child(ren).
